Daily Word Quiz Smart Phone App

In December 2021, I released an iPhone App I developed in collaboration with my employer, OTC. The app is a Word-a-Day Quiz app for helping Japanese engineers and factory workers improve their English vocabulary skills. The app offers customizable profiles, several quiz types, integration with the company blog, text to speech functionality, and other features.

TTRPG Studio is a Paper Miniature Layout Tool that integrates with Patreon‘s API. The tool runs in internet browsers and allows users to quickly and easily design custom Paper Miniature Layouts using art by Brave Adventures‘ and partnered Publishers.

I am developing the tool in PHP and JavaScript, and I built a custom-made Patreon API integration. I also manage a team of artists for producing the tool’s content stream, and I am responsible for managing the Discord Community, Customer Support and our Social Media.

A public Beta version of the tool is currently available here.

BA PhotoShop Script

Using JavaScript and the PhotoShop API, I have written a custom PhotoShop Script with a GUI that allows me to quickly and easily perform various operations. Using this script, I am able to take images with modular parts and recombine them into every possible combination. The script can also auto-generate the JSON meta-information used by TTRPG Studio.

Brave Adventures

What is Brave Adventures?

Brave Adventures is a brand and online store that I created in 2012. It makes digital table top gaming products and sold them through its online store and the OneBookshelf websites. In 2020, we discontinued the online store, and focused on the crowd funding platform, Patreon. We transferred customer purchase history to our OBS store and used Patreon as a way to pre-purchase new content. As of 2021, the Brave Adventures Patreon provides patrons access to Brave Adventures’ content in a paper miniature layout tool I developed called TTRPG Studio.

Brave Adventures has been featured in articles on the popular websites GeekDad and Geek and Sundry.

While the stores was operational, customers paid using Credit Card or PayPal and received an automated download link for their products. The website also stored the customers’ purchase history in a product library that allowed them to access and download their products at any time.

Traffic to the website reaches up to 1800 visitors a month, and Brave Adventures has a newsletter reach of over 700 customers.

Brave Adventures has also partnered with game publishers such as AntiMatter Games to produce paper miniatures as an add-on to their DeepWars Blood Reef Kickstarter, which raised over $27,000 USD.

Procedural Content Generation

Brave Adventures also hosts several online tools focusing on procedural content generation, such as the Grimoire Generator, which produces descriptions of magical texts for use in creative works or games like Dungeons & Dragons.

A Magnificent Codex on Humanoid Transmutation
Description: A disconcerting tome bound in faded pig leather, with sapphires inlaid on the front cover. Upon opening, you can see that the author’s writing is tiny and difficult to read. Each chapter begins with an illustration of a young boy who slowly ages into an old man as you turn the pages. When you get to the last chapter, the old man becomes a boy again, but this time with a sinister smile.
Spells: This book contains 1 Level 4 Spell, 2 Level 5 Spells, and 1 Level 6 Spell.
Rarity: One-of-a-Kind Value: 4900 Gold Coins

Another tool hosted on Brave Adventures is an NPC (non-player character) generator for table-top role-playing games. It uses procedural algorithms to produce sheets of printable character cards that conform with various game rulesets.

My Role

My role at Brave Adventures is managing the website and online marketing, programming the digital tools, and handling the layout and digital publishing of the products. I am also responsible for negotiating licensing and royalty contracts, and handling affiliate and artist commissions.

I work with other artists who create the art, while I handle the layout and production using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign. While I sometimes assist by coloring line-art or contributing my own images, I am primarily responsible for creating the finished PDFs and download packages for the products. I also create cut-files for automated cutting machines such as Silhouette or Robocutter.

Charity Fundraisers

I have organized two charity fundraisers under the Brave Adventures brand. In 2014, I collaborated with other publishers and organized a digital product bundle that raised almost $5000 USD for Doctors without Borders’ earthquake relief efforts in Nepal.

Then, in 2016, I organized a second charity bundle to raise money for CARE Canada’s Syrian refugee relief efforts that raised just over $4700 CAD including matching donations by the Canadian government.
